Why doesn’t Nissan take the Q60 and make it the next Z-Car??

Better question. Why can't Nissan just pack it in already?

Because it’s bigger , heavier ? 4 seater and not 2 seater? Will cannibalize Q60 sales?

Yeah but wasn't that how the 350z/g35 and 370z/g37 were?

Like the 300zx?

But work backwards from an existing “luxury” version to a mainstream brand version, modifying it to make a lighter, cheaper, smaller car instead of creating a new platform? I haven’t heard of it.
Manufacturers usually make a smaller car platform and modify it to create a crossover or a larger luxury car based on it right? Like in the case of various VAG products. And the G37 that was derived from the 370Z platform, not the other way round..

Knowing Nissan they’ll just rebody it to be Z shape and charge Q60 price and market it like it’s a sleek sports car.
Edit: don't forget, this is modern Nissan - the company that adds some red accents, 5hp and slaps a Nismo badge on it.

Yeah and when we say 4 seater, haha , maybe kids!

Because they have become a garbage ass company with no motivation to be innovative anymore. Look at the GT-R: the R32 and R33 were produced for 5 years each, the R34 for only 3 (not counting the Z Tune), but the R35 is coming into year 12 now. The 350Z was nice and in a way the 370 was too, but it became portly and overpriced and old. The Frontier is old and has taken way too long to be replaced. They would rather sell a bajillion Altimas than do anything worth a shit.

Because Nissan doesn't know what it wants to be anymore.

The only thing they don’t need to replace is the Frontier and their going to discontinue it completely

Zero chance the Frontier just gets dropped, it’s basically printing $$$ at this point
. They sell 40%
as much as Tacomas, but there is also zero investment into them in the past 5+ yrs. All of the tooling and R&D is well past paid for.

The Q60 is just a slightly updated g37. The chassis is remarkably similar to the 370z. So there's basically no point. Chassis is ok but not great. Engine is fine though. I would support the VR30 in a lighter car.

The V35 platform (g35) came before the 350z and is the underpinning of the Z and basically every other small to midsize Nissan FR vehicle.
The Q50/60 rides on what is basically the same chassis as the old G35/350z. It's ok but not great. I wouldn't be surprised if the next Z rides on the same FM platform but with the VR30 from the Q50. Nissan is too cheap to design anything new.
